A native of Madera, CA, Irma is married and has a sixteen-year-old son who is a junior in high school. She enjoys going for walks, reading and hanging out with her son. In high school, she enrolled in a child development program, then went on to City College to earn more child development credits. And the rest is history she has been working in the childcare field for twenty-one years now! It’s not surprising that she loves working with children so much. Just talking to her, you get a sense of her kind heart and how much she cares for the children she works with. Four-and-a-half years ago, Irma joined the team at Children’s Hospital Center: An Easter Seals Child Development Center as an infant teacher. She works with children that range in age from nine-months to eighteen-months and teaches them how to sit at the table, feed themselves and how to have good manners.
“I love working for Easter Seals!” Irma said. “The parents and the other staff members make it such a great place to come every day.” The parents love Irma and the other teachers too, which is evident by the treats they bring them on their birthdays and holidays. Irma says that they continue to remember her and the other teachers even after the child has graduated to another classroom. It’s easy to see that Irma is a dedicated teacher and that she has had a huge impact on the children and parents she works with. “We are proud to have Irma on our team and we are all lucky to have her!” said Cindy Watt, the Center’s Director. “She has proven to be an outstanding teacher and the children and their parent’s just love her.” Thank you Irma for your years of service so far. Here’s looking to many more! Irma Garcia knew at a very young age that she wanted to work with children. “Ever since I was little, I liked working with kids, especially infants,” said Irma. “I was the one always babysitting on the weekends.”
They also get to play dress up and make arts and crafts. Irma really enjoys this part of her job because, as she puts it, “the kids look so cute!” There is never a dull moment in her classroom, but Irma says that it’s great because there is always something different to experience and that the children are a pleasure to work with.
