THE TOTALS ARE IN...
...Walk With Me - Salinas exceeded its goal and raised $27,480
Our Walk With Me for Disability Awareness and Resource Fair event on Saturday, April 5th, at Sherwood Park in Salinas was a resounding success! Our emcees Megan Munro and Dann Cianca from KION 46 and ESCC President and CEO Tom Conway, assisted by long-time Easter Seals friend and supporter Ron Haedicke, welcomed everyone to our first Salinas Walk and introduced our 2014 Ambassadors, Aaron, Panchito, Jason and Keith. At 9:00 a.m. the walkers – some 215 strong – lined up behind our Ambassadors for the one-mile Walk (and roll!) down to Tatum’s Garden and back, enjoying the beautiful day and the wonderful spirit of celebration of differing abilities.
After the Walk, our community partner agencies presented 20 information tables and families enjoyed activities including a performance of Easter Seals’ Kids on the Block puppet show, the Wheelie Mobilee from the MY Museum, Block Fest facilitated by Parents as Teachers staff and Ability Awareness activities hosted by the Monterey County SELPA. The event was topped off by a raffle for a wheelchair-accessible playhouse custom made by Habitat for Humanity and other family activity packages.
We are deeply grateful to our generous sponsors who made the event possible:
First 5 Monterey County which sponsored the Wheelie Mobilee and Block Fest activities, CVS Pharmacy, Safeway, San Andreas Regional Center, Fenton & Keller, Kohl’s, and Goodfellow Occupational Therapy, as well as many other in-kind donors and supporters. Please join us in April 2015 and be sure to invite all your family, friends, co-workers and neighbors to Walk With us next year!!
